Storm Preparation
Tropical Storm Arthur is bringing heavy rain through Saturday, and Baton Rouge is handing out sandbags now. If you own property or live in a flood-prone spot, grab sandbags and prep before the weather hits—why wait until streets start pooling?
Bayou Manchac / Ward Creek flood-reduction project
The council approved a $1.75 million design contract, 100% federally funded, for the Bayou Manchac Restoration and Ward Creek Realignment project — the first step in a regional flood-reduction effort with Ascension, Iberville, Livingston and St. George. Officials say more than 75% of the parish drains into Bayou Manchac, which barely flows.
Pettit Road Sand and Gravel Mining
A proposed mining operation on two tracts along Pettit Road was pushed to July 20, 2026, so the commission deferred it by consent. Neighbors will have more time before any hearing outcome.
